Ballyhenry Angus Organic Plus

The herd of cattle are free to roam on the 800 acre farm, fed only grass and live outdoors year-round as nature intended. We’ve planted copses on the land to provide natural shelter for the cattle. The cows gather under trees for shelter from the harsh weather and rain, and when they’re ready to calve. With 200 semi mature deciduous trees per animal we are currently in a carbon credit situation.

365 days of the year outdoors.
No sheds, but each pasture has an attached wooded copse for shelter.
No slurry created which mitigates the risk of run off into water courses when spread on land.
Low stocking rate to give 4 times more grazing area per animal.
Bulls roam with cows so they can come into calf naturally.
Calves are not taken away from mothers. They wean naturally when mother is due to calf the following year.
Animals move to new pastures on average every two days.
Quick rotation of stock through the pastures eliminates the need for dosing because they never develop stomach parasites.
Stock is moved from pasture to pasture through connecting gates and they learn to follow, this eliminates stress.
100% Ballyhenry grass fed.
The volume of trees on the land provides 4 times the carbon absorption needed to absorb the gases produced by the herd. thus, maximizing our climate positive environmental protocol policy.
Deep underground spring water is provided to all pastures and drinking troughs are sealed when stock is not in the pasture, to give guaranteed pristine water always.
No animal has been sick or received any drugs, antibiotics, or chemicals of any kind during it’s lifetime when sold under “plus18” protocols.
Pastures are mature and contain a wide variety of herbs, weeds and wild grasses for maximum variety. Reseeding of mature pastures is not a practice.
Ballyhenry is a closed herd, all animals are born on the farm and always outside.
The cows are 90% purebred Angus Bulls of the finest quality are sourced and 100% pure bred Angus, thus ensuring a premium beef product.
20% of the land area is given over to biodiversity shelter belts and woodland copses.

Avoca are pleased to announce our partnership with local beef farmer, Rebecca Harris & Joe O’Connell, to provide customers with the finest organic grass-fed Angus beef. Suckler reared and grass fed their entire lives these cattle roam from pasture to pasture and shelter in copses, just as it should be. They eat only grass and drink only fresh spring water. They are given no drugs or antibiotics whatsoever and live outdoors all year round, just as nature intended.
